Read All About This, Kate Winslet...Oh Wait....

Channel 4's whacking out some good'uns at the mo! The Reader was this Sunday night's extravaganzaaaaa and yes, I was once again rather excited to experience watching another must-see highly-acclaimed picture.

I was *not* disappointed. I have to say, I didn't know much about the film before other than the affair between Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet) and Michael Berg (David Kross) and the shock value surrounding the large age gap. I was pleasantly surprised however to find there was a lot more to the story and these characters than pure lust and hiding their affection.

For once, English being used instead of German with subtitles as me and Harry both prefer (after all if they are meant to be portrayed as German speaking German in Germany, they should be actually speaking German) doesn't take away from the film at all as it allows us to fully appreciate the acting. And it wasn't half bad :P Kate Winslet really is something!

And well done not mucking up your speech and the Golden Globes :P Apparently reading's not the only thing she needs to practice...

Bring On The HP (And I Don't Mean The Sauce!)

Like the lazy peeps we are, me and Harry ditched handing out CVs for a short notice HP marathon at our friends (OH YEAH!). Part of me has felt ol' Potter's ventures have the potential to get a tad tedious, but I just can't deny the excitement of a Harry Potter sesh, for the series is made up of such classics (or as Harry decribes them: landmark films of our generation's childhood - good enough for me). We decided the films once again don't quite reflect how amazing the books are but for them to achieve such an impossible task it'd have taken a hell of a lot of money and about 10 hours for each installment - so hats off to what they've done! Only having time for myself to watch the first, I realised that this is in fact my least favourite. As well as the cheesiness, the acting and script aren't that great (my Harry's thought's also) but granted, it is a family film and they were very young. I much prefer when they get a lot darker and there's more twists in the storyline as the plot starts to thicken and unfold. So basically I don't like Chris Columbus' interpretation and naivety of the delightful wizarding world. It's a shame I didn't get to watch more but I don't have the whole Blu-ray set for nothing ;D I thought I only really liked a few and on a good occasion but thinking about what's exactly in each one and the personality of each attracts me to ALL of them. I do believe though that the 3rd,5th and Part 2 are my faves with the first being my least favourite but I know that every single person has a completey different opinion on each. So...for pure curiosity, I'd like to know what everyone's favourite is so vote on the poll on our page and feel free to leave a comment with why that's your fave - we'd love to hear from our readers :D

And We Haaave A Winnnner!!

Finally, ladies and gentleman, Daisy Victoria Edwards has a favourite film!  One that I wanted to watch again as soon as it finished! One that I'll actually want to watch over and over and over...some may say (500) times (I'm such a joker!)

Yes, (500) Days Of Summer, you clever people! Even the title radiates something special and individual reflecting the quirky and different take on a traditional love story...And if this didn't sell it to me, the prospect of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel's beautiful kids sure did!

I love a bit of interesting and unique editing to add humour among many other things so the from the beginning my eyes were glued. The narrative structure of the films adds so much more emotion and attachment to the film's characters and simply reflects how this relationship is like no other.

Simply beautiful, so sad while hilariously funny. But sightly illogical, I mean, how on Earth can JGL not get a girlfriend? No worries, his little sister Chloe Grace Moretz's help is at hand (talk about an talented family).

Not only did I want (to be) the actors, JGL's full wall chalkboard and to live in America purely for their amazingly classic movie theatres but I had to get it on Blu-Ray ASAP! And the soundtrack of course! I'm still waiting on both while shaking a tad...

That's how I know I've found my fave film....

Don't Cry Over Jennifer Connelly: Selfish Bitch

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM! WHY HAVE I ONLY JUST SEEN THIS FILM!!??

This film = (insane s*** + drugs + immense editing/directing) x Jared Motherf...Leto

So why did I have to wait for the school film club to bring it to me? I should have been running to it just to stroke Jared's eye on the cover...(have an obsession as you can tell...well, he is a God amongst men!) BONUS: He was called Harry (I can dream...JK) Took me by surprise when he opened his mouth though - was not expected that accent...but I found it quite endearing after a while (does he have any flaws?) And how cute was he playing around with his gf: Jennifer Connelly

But enough about Him for now. This film is up there not just for good actors but my God, the editing: split screens and montages galore. Not sure if the drugs bit got overused at one point but as it was consistent it was one of the fundamental elements that make the film so unique and ground-breaking.

And while we're on groundbreaking: the soundtrack *UGH - screams uncontrollably* Yeah, it's repeated sometimes and you think whoah deja vu but you've got to have a theme, right? Theme's are the best! And this theme is heavenly! Adds so much more tension and emotion to the scenes - I almost cried at the aftermath...

Some people shouldn't cry *coughJaredcough* - please you're a beautiful man, just don't lower yourself to cry over that selfish girlfriend of yours who you treat like a crackwhore princess and she just cares when she's gonna next get to fix herself up. But don't worry about your poor, cold, injured boyfriend who's just as much a junkie as you are a shllllllaaaaaaaag (fair does, you needed the money though)...

As I need to watch this film, AGAIN! SOON! MUCH LOVE FOR DIS MOVIE AND SOUNDTRACK - GO WATCH IT NOW!

It's the 2012 funtime bonanza

Hello ladies and gents, Harry again and today I am here to inform all you peoples on what film treats we will be looking forward to this year. We have our Dark Knights, our Hobbitses, some Avengers about and a new Spiderman film but I am not here to inform you of what this years blockbusters and big hits will be, I want to inform you of the smaller films that may not get the attention they deserve due to these mammoth blockbusters.

Lets start with this month, with the Paranormal Activity-esque 'The Devil Inside Me', the story of a women trying to find out exactly what mental illness of paranormal/demonic entity is inside her mother. It will probably follow the conventions set down by Paranormal but I love these films none the less and will be amongst the first to see it when it comes out on the 27th.

Now for the first of three appearances for Liam Neeson on this list is not really a release but a re-release and that is Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace, with the added gimmick of 3D. I don't care about whatever remastery George Lucas has put into as I'm just so damn excited to watch it all again, Star Wars in 3D is one of the few films that make sense to use the technology and I am just damn excited to see it in the cinemas again.

Second Liam Neeson film in yo faces! The Grey. The story of Liam Neeson going badass in the wilderness all Bear Grylls style (No drinking of piss from what i've heard though) as he tries to escape a frozen wasteland that he and some presumably retarded oil-rig rednecks have crashed in on their way home. Expect to see him beating down and running from plenty of wolves as they appear to be the antagonists in this film, coming to you on the 27th, a good day it would seem.

Now moving to March where I can only assume we will see an Oscar nomination of some sorts as it deals with politics and anything even acknowledging politics and the corruptness of the whole fricking world is bound to win something. I am referring to 'Salmon Fishing In The Yemen' which focuses on the life of a civil servant in the Middle East. Now I don't claim to be in all knowing of the political knowings of the world as frankly the news is a load of tripe full of biased stories and more fiction than fact. But I'm assuming this film will be rolling in awards seeing as the topic is all very modern seeing as the Americans have finally left, even though they have still left behind a fair few ambassadors or whatever they are calling them. So yeah, looks like a good film, based off a book (Surprise, surprise). Probably worth a gander. And even if it sucks it will still win *cough* The Hurt Locker *cough*

When April comes along it seems we will all be in for a treat as Chris Hemsworth will be gracing our eyeballs not once but twice. And i'm not here to big up The Avengers as I for one prefer the Justice League tenfold but Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr appearing side by side is just amazing for me but enough of this tomfollery. I want to inform all you film folk of Joss Whedon's other work as he wrote this one. Cabin In The Woods, check out the trailer, you think you've seen it all before (ala Evil Dead, Cabin Fever, every film in a woods or cabin ever) But you haven't. Things quickly turn into a mind fuck of Inception proportions! I was watching this thing and I was just freaking out! It looks amazing! So amazing, I am struggling to make any coherent sentences about it.

Tasty bit of controversial comedy next as we see Sacha Baron Cohen return after what I believed to be a poor film 'Bruno'. 'The Dictator' is 'the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.' Why will this film be controversial? One look who’s starring, two look at the trailer and you will see the sort of jokes that come along, in very poor taste for some but I found absolutely hilarious and three, it’s based on a book by bloody Saddam Hussein. Definitely one to watch this year.

Next is a what sounds a rather odd film but one that leaves nothing to the imagination so I will leave you with just the title, 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'...

Next is Looper, which has time travel, badassery, Bruce Willis, hitmen, Joseph Gordon Levitt and badassery. Good Ol' Bruce Willis is the older version of JGL or is it the other way round? Either way, theres guns, explosions and badass mofos.

Liam Neeson's final entry but possibly his most exciting entrance is 'Taken 2'. If you haven't seen the first shame on you. Go watch it now. Then come back and get ready for a neck snapping, explosion, story driven adventure where Liam Neeson kills many many foreigners on their land, this time in Turkey. So yeah, bitches gunna die!

Last but not least is one I called the second I got out the cinema, after finishing extremely strong on the last instalment, it is no surprise 'Paranormal Activity 4' was announced yesterday. This is great news for me as I am a HUGE fan of the first 3 and have my own theories on where this will go.

Hope you enjoyed this list on what to look out for this year. But this isn't all as 2012 is definitely a huge year for film unlike last year, which sucked.

Bit Late For a Christmas Movie!

After falling asleep at first attempt of watching Disney's A Christmas Carol (no relation to quality of the film, merely my exhaustion) during the actual Christmas period, I decided to organise another family viewing slightly later in the holidays. I've wanted to see this film for a while in 3D because it actually looked like one that wouldn't use this technology for pure gimmicks. A few years later and here it is on Sky (in 2D, mind) and with my mother's enthusiasm for Disney and Christmas, it was added to the practically already full planner to record...that was like a month ago (this country like to get Christmas in and out as early as possible).

I was not disappointed by the animation looking rather realistically for quite a bit - the beauty of HD, eh? This was made even more wonderful by the amazing visual actor representation within characters seeing the likes of Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Colin Firth in a different light. Not just their voices and looks are captured though and this is clear in the representation of Scrooge in the epilogue - happy to the extreme = Jim Carrey's defo involved in this one. This came as a complete shock after struggling to comprehend how the character could physically smile throughout his ventures. I would like some tips on his budgeting methods though and his humour (Harry and me failed to classify the type but have a look at this scene for some examples). This is needed at points for some of the film gets quite dark in places (which of course I loved). Which makes me wonder if in fact the movie gives off a good message or it just influences us to feel charitable because of fear and guilt. Perhaps I'm just being a Scrooge.
